Today was absolutely 100% perfect :).
I sat the seat in front of you for two periods today because she wanted to switch us. You were helping me with my work & so was this other guy but really we were just being sarcastic & joking around with each other. You even showed me your ID & your hair was longer & straight freshman year omfg & you had this little smirk in the photo just. Your birthday’s July 13 so I’m like 5 months older than you & you’re a cancer. Pisces+Cancer= perfect. Anyway, we continued teasing each
other & the other kid thought I wasn’t looking & pointed at me & looked at you & smiled & raised his eyebrows. You gave him a face & ignored him & turned toward me. Before the last period ended I asked our friend if you guys are gonna take a test in the film class I spend with you guys instead of going to lunch sometimes & he said yeah. So I said that idk if I should go & you asked why & I was like because it was gonna be mad quiet & you teased me about always laughing in that class & distracting you. But then said that just bc it’a quiet doesn’t mean I shouldn’t go. So, I said I would. When I went though, the teacher told me I couldn’t stay because of the test & I looked at you & told you I told you so & you just looked at me for 5 seconds & popped your hand really high & fast & smiled huge & waved at me.
Thingy was teasing me too but I ignored him because I was focused on you. Wonder if he noticed.
I just. Today was perfect because of you. I like you so much.
I believe this small moment is absolutely darling. During this scene Rae’s internal monologue says,
"I’d forgotten. I’d forgotten there’s something in his lips. And no matter how crap my life was, no matter how much I I didn’t fit in at college, no matter what; when I had his lips, I had his kiss. And so long as I had that, I knew everything would be okay."
Finn is guarded, quiet, even surly for much of the first season and although he is seen playing football with others in “Don’t Ever Tell Anyone Anything,” his primary group of friends, and the only ones we truly see him interact with as though he enjoys their company, are the misfit toys we have all come to adore. From this episode we learn his parents separated at some point before he met Rae so like her, he’s from a single parent household. With this in mind one could argue a quick alteration of the pronouns could easily make this Finn’s inner monologue. This moment, this small moment which superficially allows for Chop to provide a little comedic relief, shows what we all know to be true, being with Rae has the exact same effect on Finn.
